Maryland Barber License

To get a Maryland barber license you have to apply to the Maryland Board of Barbers. It is a state body that is responsible for the qualification and licensing of the individuals who seek to become professionals in this sphere.

Requirements

Theory exam

Practice

For this exam, you are given 84 minutes. Here you need to physically perform men’s hairstyling services. Bring your supply kit and mannequin with you. To pass it, your score has to be %70 or higher.

During the examination, you should practice tapered, basic blended cuts. You will have tasks on shaving. Besides, you have to show a permanent wave and do the final cleanup.

After successfully passing these two procedures, the Board will send you all the instructions for obtaining your Maryland barber license. This process may last 10 days.

Finally, after receiving the necessary forms and permit number, apply for an Original License. You have to pay a fee of $50.

Endorsement License

In this state, you are eligible to apply for the local licensure, if you already have a valid out-of-state warrant. This means, that you just have to provide the necessary paperwork and get the instate certificate. Make sure you have the following papers with you:

Renewal Procedure

The certificate has to be renewed every two years. For the renewal, there is no need for continuing education.

The testing fee is $79. Separately, each test is $49.
For the application, you have to pay $50.
